22 million pounds of plastic enter the Great Lakes each year, and just over half of that ends up in Lake Michigan. We need a foam foodware and plastic bag ban in Illinois!

We did it! SB0058, which bans the purchasing and distribution of polystyrene foam foodware in all state facilities and agencies AND requires state agencies to track and implement goals to reduce single-use plastic disposable foodware, was signed into law by Governor Pritzker on August 4.

We did it! It passed! SB0058, which bans the purchasing and distribution of polystyrene foam foodware in all state facilities and agencies, passed in the Illinois House and Senate. After Governor Pritzker signs it, the new law will go into effect on January 1, 2025.

Victory! We’re calling on the Illinois legislature to reduce single-use plastic waste. With a 67-43 vote, HB2376-Polystyrene Reduction PASSED in the Illinois House!
