City Election Candidate Forums

On February 28, citywide elections will be held for mayor, clerk, and treasurer; an alder will be elected in each of the 50 wards; and three District Counselors will be elected in each of the 22 police districts. For weeks, candidates for office have been circulating petitions to be placed on the ballot, and they will be filing them between November 21 and 28.

As in previous elections, LWV Chicago will host forums that acquaint voters with the candidates running for office. In cooperation with Chicago Women Take Action, the League will host a mayoral candidate forum on January 14. Watch for details.

LWV Chicago also plans to hold aldermanic candidate forums and could use your help. For each forum, volunteers will be needed to line up a cosponsoring organization, secure the venue and the date, collect contact information, lock in a moderator, set the agenda and coordinate operation of the event.

Want to get involved? Here are some of the ways you can:

  • Join a committee to plan a forum in your (or another) ward.

  • Become a forum moderator. January 14 is the date of the next moderator training session.

  • Serve as an onsite volunteer—as timekeeper or question runner.

Check out the Briefing on candidate forums held on November 12. Then get more information and put your name on the volunteer list, contact Julia Kline: juliakline@gmail.com.
