Election Updates
Your Voter Canvass Card is in the Mail
Each year, the Chicago Board of Elections performs a canvass mailing to help keep the voter rolls accurate and up to date. All registered voters in Chicago will receive a new voter registration card. The U.S. Postal Service will return all undeliverable cards back to the Board and notify them about residents who have moved. If the person named on the card no longer lives at that address, the current resident is urged to write "RETURN TO SENDER" on the front of the mailing and return it in the mail.
Petition Signing Information for the 2026 Primary
In Chicago, a familiar political season is approaching. Starting today, August 5, candidates for elected office will begin circulating nominating petitions to appear on the upcoming March 17, 2026 Primary Election ballot. Here are some tips:
A voter can only sign if they live in the district of the proposed candidate.
A voter can’t sign for candidates for office in more than one party.
A voter can sign for multiple candidates within the same party for the same office.
A voter can sign for an established party and an independent for the same office—just not multiple independents for the same office.
