Briefing: Communities and Crime - What Neighborhoods Can Do to Reduce Crime on their Streets

Craig Kaiser is the founder of the Streeterville Neighborhood Advocates, a community-building organization focused on improving the safety and quality of life in the neighborhood. During the past ten years, he has been a strong advocate for community policing and has developed the 4E model of crime prevention: education, engagement, environment, and enforcement.

In this Briefing, Kaiser will speak about each of these: the importance of educating communities about crime and how to prevent it, the dynamics of engaging the community to reduce crime, the broken window theory as it relates to the neighborhood environment, and possible enforcement options including legislation, policing, courts and consequences.

Lastly, Kaiser will discuss the current situation and what he believes we can do to assure community-based safety.
