Other Ways to Contribute

Donate Appreciated Securities

By donating appreciated securities to the League of Women Voters of Chicago, you can receive a tax deduction for the current fair market value of the asset while avoiding capital gains tax. Essentially, you can give more money to the League and less to taxes. Contact your brokerage/financial services company for more information.

Leverage Your IRA

Donors age 70.5 or older can transfer up to $100,000 annually from their IRA directly to the League of Women Voters of Chicago without being subject to income taxes on the distribution. This effectively makes the distribution a deductible gift. Furthermore, if you are at an age where you must take a required minimum distribution (RMD), a gift directly from your IRA reduces the amount of the RMD that otherwise would be taxable income on a dollar-for- dollar basis. Contact your IRA administrator for more information.

Estate Plan Gifts

You can leave a strong legacy with an estate plan gift to the League. To make a gift of a specific amount or a percentage of your estate, work with your estate lawyer to draft or amend your estate plan. Additionally, you can name the League of Women Voters of Chicago as the beneficiary on funds, or individual stocks and bonds in your portfolio. Work with your investment advisor or the company that holds your portfolio to update your account beneficiary.
