Briefing | Chicago’s Elected School Board

In 2020, the Illinois General Assembly passed legislation to create a 21-member elected school board for the City of Chicago. Join us to learn more about it!

Illinois State Senator Robert Martwick, a sponsor to the bill, will walk us through the bill’s provisions.

WBEZ’s Kate Grossman will provide information about the stakeholders in the upcoming election.

After each speaker, questions will be taken.

This is the first time Chicago will have an elected school board. Although the election for school board members won’t be held until 2024, it is important for us to understand the new law and how it will affect the citizens of Chicago.

This briefing is sponsored by LWV Chicago’s Education Committee.
