Where in the Ward Are We?

The Chicago City Council on May 16 approved a city ward map that sets new ward boundaries for the next ten years. Approved by a vote of 43-7, the new map ends a fight that lasted for months over redistricting proposals made by ethnic groups, an independent redistricting commission, and City Council committees.

Because the vote exceeded the 41-vote threshold, competing ward maps will not be placed on the June Primary Election ballot and voters will not have the chance to make their own decisions on redistricting. See more information on the vote.

CHANGE Illinois, which established an independent redistricting commission, strongly opposes the action taken by City Council, noting that the new map protects incumbents, disregards the geographic integrity of neighborhoods and communities’ voting rights, and pays only lip service to finding a better path for involving the community in redistricting. See CHANGE Illinois' statement.

LWV Chicago supported CHANGE Illinois in its efforts to educate citizens about redistricting and create an independent redistricting commission.

So what does your ward look like in the new map? Check out the interactive map. This map is expected to go into effect for the February 28, 2023, Municipal Election, but it may face court challenges.
