What You Should Know

Illinois House Bill 3067 amends the Environmental Protection Act and provides that, beginning January 1, 2023, a store in Illinois may not sell or distribute disposable food service containers that are composed in whole or in part of polystyrene foam and directs the EPA to adopt rules to implement the provisions.

As documented by Green Dining Alliance in 2015, Styrofoam is a known hazardous substance. It leaches into food and drink, is toxic, and it is a principal source of litter.

LWVIL is opposed to the release of toxic pollutants from any source that may damage the ecosystem. The League supports informed and responsible action on behalf of preserving our local ecosystem. Other organizations, such as Environment Illinois, support this bill.

Thank you for taking action!
