Election 2022 Updates
Election Procedure Updates
Some of the temporary changes to elections in 2020 have been retained as a result of Illinois legislation, including:
Secure drop boxes will be available for voters returning Vote By Mail ballots.
Voting centers on Election Day may be used by any voter in that Election Authority’s jurisdiction.
Election Day, November 8, will be a state holiday (the June 28 Primary Election Day will not).
New for 2022:
Voters will be able to apply for permanent Vote By Mail status (as opposed to applying for a Vote By Mail ballot for each election).
If needed, a voter may change party affiliation for a Primary Election ballot and the address to which the Vote By Mail Ballot should be sent.
Voter Registration Events on Hold
LWV Chicago has not scheduled official voter registration events due to COVID concerns. Members who wish to register voters should contact Helene Gabelnick for materials.
Candidates for Office
Potential candidates from established political parties may begin to circulate nominating petitions on January 13. A voter may sign only one nominating petition for a candidate for a specific office. Petitions must be filed between March 7 and March 14. Objections to nominations must be filed by March 21.
