League Partners with Chicago Food Depository on Voter Education

The League of Women Voters of Chicago and the League of Women Voters of Cook County, in partnership with the Greater Chicago Food Depository, are excited to announce a new nonpartisan voter registration and civic education collaboration that will bring voter education services to Food Depository food access partner locations, including pantry sites and other community locations.

This partnership reflects a shared commitment to serving neighbors and strengthening civic participation, grounded in the belief that communities thrive when residents have both the resources to meet basic needs and the opportunity to shape the decisions that affect their lives.

Under the partnership, LWV Chicago and LWV Cook County will recruit and deploy trained deputy registrars and volunteers to provide voter registration and voter education at participating Food Depository partner sites.

“The Greater Chicago Food Depository’s mission is rooted in dignity, access, and community strength, and voting is a critical way our neighbors can shape the decisions that impact their ability to thrive, particularly at a time when so many face losing access to critical food assistance,” said Danielle Perry, Vice President of Policy and Advocacy at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. “When community members raise their voices at the ballot box, they help influence policies that determine access to nutritious food and strengthen hunger‑relief programs across Chicago and Cook County. We are proud to partner with the League of Women Voters to bring nonpartisan voter registration and education directly to food access sites—empowering our neighbors with both the resources they need today and the tools to shape a more food‑secure future.”

“LWV Chicago is focused on reaching communities that have too often been left out of our democratic process, including low-turnout areas where barriers to participation can be highest,” said Jane Ruby, President of the League of Women Voters of Chicago. “This partnership is a practical, neighbor-centered way to meet people where they are, provide trusted nonpartisan information, and help more eligible voters prepare to cast a ballot.”

“The Cook County League and all 11 Suburban Cook Leagues are excited about this opportunity to work with the Chicago League and the Greater Chicago Food Depository and its partners to help register and provide voting information,” says LWV Cook County President Diane Edmundson.
