Reject Anti-Voter Policies
Last week, the US House of Representatives passed the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which would require citizenship documentation to register to vote even though voters in every state are already required to affirm or verify their citizenship status when registering.
The SAVE Act would create one more barrier to the voting process, particularly for citizens of color, members of the military, those impacted by natural disasters, and those who have changed their name, like married women.
"Today is a dark day in politics," responded Celina Stewart, CEO of the League of Women Voters of the United States. "The passage of the SAVE Act in the US House is a direct attack on the fundamental right to vote and a dangerous step backward for our democracy." Read LWVUS' full statement.
The legislation now moves to the Senate. Tell your Senators to oppose the SAVE Act.
