Civic Engagement in Action: Town Hall with Rep. Delia Ramirez

Last week, I had the opportunity to attend a town hall hosted by Congresswoman Delia Ramirez—my own representative in Congress. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of direct dialogue between elected officials and their constituents.

In a time when public town halls have become less frequent and more scripted across the country, Rep. Ramirez’s event stood out. It was a forum rooted in accessibility, honesty, and accountability—principles that align deeply with the League’s mission. She spoke candidly about federal policy challenges, answered tough questions from constituents, and made clear her commitment to staying connected to the communities she serves.

These events are more than just updates from Washington—they are an essential part of a functioning democracy. They give voters a platform to voice their concerns, and elected officials a chance to listen and respond. This kind of face-to-face engagement fosters trust and transparency in government.

I encourage all LWV members to attend town halls when possible—whether in person or virtually—and to invite friends, family, and neighbors along. Our presence as informed, engaged citizens sends a message: we value participatory democracy, and we expect the same from those elected to represent us.

Let’s show up and be counted.
