Redistricting Update

Chicago Ward Redistricting

Three different maps have been submitted to the City Council for consideration:

  • The Chicago City Council Rules Committee introduced its map on December 1.

  • The Chicago Advisory Redistricting Commission submitted the People’s Map, and it should come before the City Council for action at the December Council meeting.

  • The Latino Caucus of the City Council submitted its map with 15 supporters.

If some agreement cannot be reached, there could be a referendum, through which voters would be asked to choose between two or more maps that have the support of at least ten alderpersons.

The City Council’s Rules Committee will hold public hearings December 7 (at 3 pm) and December 10 (at 1 pm) for further discussion. Members of the public may submit written comments to Michelle.Evans@cityofchicago.org until 10 am on Thursday, December 9 for the December 10 hearing.

To watch either of these hearings via livestream, go to the City Clerk's website at the appropriate time and look for the link near the top of the home page.
