City Election Candidate Forums

The League of Women Voters of Chicago was front and center during the Municipal Election doing what we do best: facilitating discourse and making sure every voter gets a chance to learn what their candidates stand for.

This election season saw an incredibly successful round of candidate forums hosted and sponsored by LWV Chicago ahead of the election on February 28. This would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of League members from across the city who helped organize, facilitate and lead these events. We organized, promoted, and/or co-sponsored forums in twelve wards, as well as a televised mayoral debate in partnership with ABC7.

Thanks to our members, we have once again proven that the League is a force to be reckoned with in Chicago, with an important role to play in making our democracy work.

LWV Chicago also sent our Illinois Voter Guide Questionnaire to all mayoral, aldermanic, and Police District Council candidates. Responses to the questionnaires and links to corresponding forum videos were included in the Illinois Voter Guide.

While the Municipal Election is finally in the rearview mirror, there are still plenty of races to be decided in the April Runoff. The League will again be playing an important role, up and down the ballot.

A special thanks to Inanna Khansa and Philip Horrigan, students from the University of Chicago who helped with the candidate forums.

We are always in need of more volunteers, so if you have the time and are willing to step up and help, we welcome you to reach out to Voter Service for ways to get involved in the April 4 election and beyond.

There will be a mayoral candidates forum on Thursday, March 16 at 7 pm, organized by ABC7 and cosponsored by LWV Chicago. Watch for more information on this and other runoff forums soon.
