Holding Elected Officials Accountable

What happens once an election is over? It becomes time to hold the winners accountable and make sure they walk the walk when it comes to campaign promises.

Before being elected, Brandon Johnson filled out a questionnaire concerning environmental issues and what he intends to do about them. Read his responses to critical questions like how a Department of Environment would enforce pollution regulations, whether revenue from the checkout bag tax should be dedicated to environmental purposes, and whether there should be a polystyrene foam ban in city facilities.

Holding our elected officials accountable means organizing to get our people behind a common set of goals, and speaking up! You can email the mayor, send a letter to the editor of your favorite newspaper, and contact your alderperson to tell them to prioritize the environment.

Chicago’s newly-elected mayor and city council take office on May 15. Let’s hit the ground running! Join the Environmental Action Committee on the third Monday of every month from 4-5 pm.
