Alders Program Concludes with 44 Interviews

How many have you watched?

Did you know that the links to all the interviews can be found at lwvchicago.org/aldermen?  Or look under “Events” at the top of the League’s website, then click on “Zooming with the Aldermen” to get to that page. There you will find two lists: a list of the interviews in order by ward and a chronological list of the interviews, beginning with the date of the most recent one.

Why should you watch?

  • You’ll get to know a little bit about each of the wards.

  • You’ll get a sense of what each alder is like, which may differ from how you have seen or read about them in the news.

  • You’ll get to hear each alder’s views on some key issues.

  • You’ll learn more about the operations of the Chicago City Council and its committees.

  • And you can get all of this information in a short period of time; most interviews run only about 30 minutes.

  • Above all, THESE INTERVIEWS ARE INTERESTING!

If watching all 44 interviews seems too daunting, consider starting by watching the interviews with alders who are currently in the news. For example, there is an interview with Ald. Michele Smith, 43rd, who successfully led the charge to tighten up the Chicago Ethics Ordinance and has just announced she is leaving the City Council now. Similarly, you can watch the interviews with Ald. James Cappleman, 46th, and Ald. Harry Osterman, 48th, who have announced they are not going to run for reelection next year.

Maybe you want to watch the interview with your current alder. Will you be in a new ward as a result of redistricting? Watch the interview with that alder, then move on to the alders in surrounding wards.

If you live on the North Side, take the opportunity to learn more about the South Side or West Side alders and their wards.

Take a look at the current city ward map, and start picking out the ward numbers for the interviews you want to watch.

And enjoy.
