Annual Meeting

  • Maggiano's Little Italy 516 North Clark Street Chicago, IL, 60654 United States (map)

All LWV Chicago members are invited to our Annual Meeting on Saturday, June 8! We’ll meet to vote on the members who will lead the organization, the budget for the next year, and changes to our org's bylaws.

We'll gather downtown at Maggiano's (516 N Clark St) to enjoy a breakfast buffet, look back on the last year, and plan for the next! There is also an option to join virtually.

Tina Brady Pettis, LWV Chicago member and founder of GOTV 4 TEENS, will give the keynote address on "Establishing a National Teen Voter Registration Day."

At last year's virtual Annual Meeting, members asked for us to run this year's as a hybrid, so we're back in person for the first time since 2019. Ticket costs cover both the venue and hybrid technology.

Letina Brady Pettis
”Establishing a National Teens Voter Registration Day”

Letina (Tina) Brady Pettis, a native of Chicago's South Side, grew up deeply inspired by her father's and family members' advocacy for voting rights—their commitment to community leadership instilled in Tina a profound dedication to public service. After a successful career in higher education, Tina transitioned into active community engagement, demonstrating a passionate commitment to voting rights and social advocacy.

Tina's dedication to voting rights was further ignited after Illinois Governor JB Pritzker signed the Reform Bill SB2123, effective January 1, 2024, allowing 16-year-olds to pre-register to vote.

As a passionate advocate for youth civic engagement, Tina founded Get Out the Vote (GOTV) 4 Teens, an organization dedicated to empowering teenagers to participate in the democratic process. Recognizing the importance of early involvement in voting, she established National Teens Voter Registration Day in May 2024, a nationwide initiative encouraging teens to register to vote and understand their role in shaping the future. This movement aims to inspire young individuals to participate in their communities and utilize their voices. With a steadfast commitment to education and advocacy, Tina ensures that the next generation is informed, engaged, and ready to lead.

Tina is the Director and Co-Chair of the League of Women Voters of Illinois-Issues and Advocacy and the Director of Issues and Advocacy for the League of Women Voters of Chicago. Her advocacy extends to various community-focused groups, including Diversity and Inclusion, Cook County Criminal Justice, and Community Oversight of Police. She is a vocal advocate for women's rights, the fight against gun violence, and the promotion of voting rights. Tina is an active member of several organizations, including the National Council of Negro Women, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, National Women Veterans United, and The Links, Incorporated. Her involvement in these groups further amplifies her commitment to social justice and community development.

Tina's profound impact has been recognized through numerous awards, including the National Association of University Women North Central Section Woman of the Year, the Women Making History Award from the National Council of Negro Women, Chicago Midwest Section, the Dorothy J. Fisher Community Service Servant Leader Award from Top Ladies of Distinction, the Women of Excellence Award from the Chicago Defender, and the President of the United States Volunteer Service Award.

Tina holds a Bachelor's Degree from DePaul University, a Master's in Legal Studies from Purdue University Global, and a Diversity and Inclusion certification from Cornell University.
