Briefing: The 2021 Springfield Veto Session

Hear LWV Chicago’s LeTina Brady Pettis describe efforts to restore voting rights to Illinois' prison population. She and other Leaguers were at the State Capitol during the recent Veto Session advocating for SB828 Voting in Prison.

Although this legislation, which would restore voting rights to incarcerated people, was called to the House floor for a vote, it failed to meet the 60-vote requirement to pass the bill by three votes.

Although SB828 did not move out of the House during the Veto Session, advocates were able to start conversations across the state around voting rights for people experiencing incarceration, and they don't plan on giving up.
