Chicago Forest Preserve Walks|Schiller Woods

Come out and enjoy the Cook County Forest Preserves with a guided nature walk at Schiller Woods, located along the Des Plaines Trail near O'Hare airport. We will learn about the woods and their indigenous heritage from a Forest Preserve naturalist.

We’ll meet at Schiller Woods (W Irving Park Rd, east of Des Plaines River Rd).

The event is limited to 20 people.

On this walk, you will visit the Serpent Twin Mound (Pokto Činto), a contemporary earthwork by Indigenous artist and architect Santiago X. This monument reflects the ancestral tradition of mound building and reflects on the rich cultural history of Indigenous place-making here in Illinois and beyond.

Bring your own picnic! After the presentation, there will be an opportunity to picnic under the shelter.

LWV Chicago is a supporter of the Cook County Forest Preserve VOTE YES referendum coming up on the November ballot—voters will have the opportunity to vote YES to protect clean water sources, air quality, and wildlife in Cook County. A property tax increase of 0.025% (less than $1.66/month for the vast majority of homeowners) will protect, restore, and expand the Cook County Forest Preserves.

More guided nature walks are planned in Chicago-area Forest Preserves. Learn more.
