Interview with Ald. Stephanie D. Coleman
Alderperson’s Wish List Includes a Grocery Store at 63rd Street
We have an investment problem in the 16th Ward, and it is the root of public violence, explained Alderperson Stephanie D. Coleman in her interview with Leaguer Elona Vaisnys that premiered on July 29.
Ald. Coleman said she was led to run in 2019 by seeing how tax increment financing (TIF) could incentivize companies to develop, but also seeing that the community was not involved in the process. See below for background on TIFs.

Besides investment, Ald. Coleman said her constituents need access to good public education and access to financial literacy for homeowners.
Ald. Coleman chairs the Subcommittee on Reparations, created in June of 2020 under the Health Committee, to study ways to provide reparations for the descendants of slaves.
An improvement she’d like to see in the operation of the City Council is to update the current Rules.
