Interview with Ald. David H. Moore
“A Clean Community Is a Safe Community, Is a Working Community”
Alderman David H. Moore (17th Ward) cited this as one of his primary mantras during his interview with Leaguer Debby Halpern, which premiered on July 22. He stressed that Chicago needs a new “keep Chicago clean” initiative.

There are two other initiatives he would like to see happen prior to the end of his term in 2023: (1) create a surcharge on properties with absent landlords, and (2) strengthen block clubs by giving them some enforcement authority regarding their rules, such as being able to enforce a ban on fixing cars on the front lawn.
The 17th Ward includes the neighborhoods of West Chatham, Auburn Gresham, Chicago Lawn, Englewood, and West Englewood and is composed mainly of single-family homes.
The top two issues of his ward are (1) need for more economic development—he pointed to the need for grocery stores, and (2) violence. Ald. Moore stressed that violence is tied to the need for economic development. He supports the mayor’s initiatives to bring economic development to the south and west sides of the city.
Two improvements Ald. Moore would like to see with the operation of the City Council are (1) Committees having a set date and time to meet each month to increase transparency and participation by the public, and (2) everyone more closely following the Council rules during meetings.
