Support Voting In Prison

In Illinois, there are over 30,000 people incarcerated in state prisons, unable to vote but still impacted by the decisions of elected officials. Of those incarcerated, 55 percent are Black and 43 percent are between the ages of 18 and 35. We are disenfranchising our young, Black Illinoisans.

LWV Chicago has joined a coalition of over 80 organizations to advocate for Senate Bill 828, which would end felony disenfranchisement in Illinois and allow people in prison the opportunity to vote!

Last week, the General Assembly reconvened for veto session and passed SB828 out of the House.

Take Action

Call Speaker Welch's office (217-782-5350) and urge him to call the bill for a vote. Then call your state senator and urge them to vote YES.

Thank you for taking action!
